Browser Extensions

Some browser extensions edit the content of the pages you visit. Most of the time this is harmless, but a few extensions rewrite text directly inside the page, which can change how your messages appear in Pentos.

What you might see

The most common symptom is a code block that looks correct for a moment, then changes to repeated [object Object] text:

[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object]

Other signs that an extension is involved:

It only happens in one browser: The same conversation looks correct in a different browser on the same account.

It appears after the page loads: The message renders correctly, then changes a second or two later.

Your data is unaffected: Copying the message, exporting the chat, or opening it in the editor all return the original text.

Why it happens

Writing assistants and proofreading extensions scan pages for text they can check, and some of them treat message content as an editable field. When that happens, the extension replaces part of the text in the page with its own version. Pentos displays messages in a read only view, so it does not overwrite what the extension wrote, and the changed text stays on screen until the page is reloaded.

This only affects what is drawn in your browser. Your message is stored correctly and is unchanged for everyone else in the conversation.

How to fix it

The most reliable fix is to turn the extension off for Pentos. Most extensions support disabling on a single site, which leaves them working everywhere else.

Grammarly: Open Grammarly from your browser toolbar while you are on Pentos, then turn off Check for writing suggestions on app.pentos.ai. This per site toggle is the one that matters.

Grammarly desktop app: Grammarly’s desktop application and its browser extension are separate. If you use the desktop app, the extension may show as deactivated while suggestions still appear, because the desktop app is handling them. Turning off the per site toggle above covers both.

Other writing assistants: Look for a site specific or per domain toggle in the extension’s settings, and add app.pentos.ai to its list of excluded sites.

Not sure which extension: Open Pentos in a private or incognito window, where extensions are usually disabled. If the problem disappears, an extension is the cause. Re enable your extensions one at a time to find it.

After turning the extension off for Pentos, reload the page. Code blocks will render normally again.

Still seeing the problem

If the issue continues with all extensions disabled, it is not an extension conflict. Contact support with the browser and version you are using, and a link to the conversation, and we will take a look.
