Importing Chats
Pentos lets you bring in your conversations from other AI chat platforms so all of your chat history lives in one place. Imported chats behave just like any other Pentos chat.
Supported Platforms
You can import exports from ChatGPT and Claude. Support for more platforms is coming soon.
Step 1: Export Your Conversations
From ChatGPT:
- In ChatGPT, open Settings > Data Controls.
- Under Export Data, select Export.
- Open the email ChatGPT sends you and download your data.
- Unzip the download and find conversations.json.
From Claude:
- In Claude, open Settings > Privacy.
- Select Export data.
- Open the email Claude sends you and download your data.
- Unzip the download and find conversations.json. If the download ends in .dms, rename it to .zip first.
Step 2: Import into Pentos
- Open Settings and select Chats from the sidebar.
- Open the Import tab.
- Choose ChatGPT or Claude.
- Click Import and select your conversations.json file.
Pentos checks the file, encrypts your conversations, and adds them to your account in the background. You can watch the progress on the Import tab, and cancel the import while it runs. When it finishes, your imported chats appear in your sidebar.
Limits
- File size: up to 50 MB.
- Conversations: up to 1,000 per import. Every conversation in the file is imported.
- One at a time: you can run one import at a time.
What You Can Do with Imported Chats
Imported conversations work like any other chat you started in Pentos:
- Continue the conversation with any AI model.
- Edit messages.
- Start threads from AI responses.
- Share them with other people.
- Download them in any format.
- Rename or pin them.
Things to Keep in Mind
- Imported chats keep each conversation’s title and the dates of its messages. ChatGPT imports also keep which model wrote each response; Claude imports are labeled as Claude.
- Tool calls and system messages from the original platform are not imported.
- Imports from ChatGPT may not display codeblocks, tables, or other artifacts exactly as they appeared in ChatGPT.
- Importing creates new chats in your account. It never changes your original export file.
