Signing In
Pentos has no passwords. You sign in with Google, or with a link or code sent to your email. The first time you sign in, Pentos creates your account, so signing up and signing in are the same steps.
Continue with Google
- On the sign-in page, click Continue with Google.
- Choose your Google account and approve access.
- Google sends you back to Pentos, signed in.
Google handles this sign-in, so your Google password is never shared with Pentos.
Continue with Email
- Enter your email address and click Continue with email. The button becomes available once a quick automatic security check at the bottom of the page finishes.
- Pentos emails you a sign-in link and a 6-digit code. Both work for one hour.
- Click the link in the email, or type the 6-digit code on the Check your email screen and click Verify code.
Didn’t get the email? Check your spam folder, then click Resend email (available every 60 seconds), or click Use a different email to start over.
One Account, Two Ways In
If you use Google and email with the same email address, both sign you in to the same account. Your chats, files, and settings are the same whichever way you sign in.
New Accounts
After your first sign-in, Pentos walks you through a short setup. See Creating an Account.
Multi-Factor Authentication
If you have turned on multi-factor authentication, Pentos asks for a 6-digit code from your authenticator app after you sign in. See Multi-Factor Authentication.
Bot Protection
The sign-in page uses Cloudflare Turnstile to block automated sign-in attempts. It runs at the bottom of the page and usually finishes on its own. Continue with email stays unavailable until it does.
Staying Signed In
- Daily sign-in: a sign-in lasts up to 24 hours. After that, Pentos asks you to sign in again, even if you have been active.
- Inactivity: Auto-Logout signs you out after the period of inactivity you choose.
- Session ended: when your session ends, Pentos returns you to the sign-in page.
- Loading problems: if Pentos cannot load your account, for example during a brief outage, you stay signed in and see Sorry, we couldn’t load your account. Click Retry to load it again, or Sign Out.
Signing Out
Open the user menu in the top-right corner of the app and click Sign Out, or click Logout at the bottom of the Settings sidebar. Signing out also clears the account data Pentos keeps on this device, so the next person to use it sees none of your chats or files.
Signing out, or being signed out by Auto-Logout, only affects the device you are using. You stay signed in on your other devices.
Auto-Logout
Auto-Logout signs you out after a period of inactivity. Shorter times are safer on shared devices; longer times are more convenient on your own computer.
- Open Settings > Account > Security.
- Under Auto-Logout, choose 30 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours (the default), 12 hours, or 24 hours. It saves as soon as you choose.
Moving the mouse, typing, scrolling, clicking, or tapping in any open Pentos tab on the same device counts as activity. There is no warning before Auto-Logout signs you out.
