Using Files With AI
Your files and the AI work together in Pentos. Give the AI a file in a chat, ask it about anything in your library, and keep the files it creates for you. The AI also works inside the document, code and image editors.
Giving the AI a File
Attach a file to a chat message and the AI reads it along with your message. See Attachments for how to attach files and the limits for each model.
Word, Excel and PDF files are converted to text in the background after upload, so the AI can read them too.
Asking About Your Files
You don’t need to attach a file for the AI to use it. Ask about a file by name, or describe what you’re looking for, and the AI can:
- Find it: search your files and folders, including files shared with you, by name or by what they contain.
- Read it: read a file’s text, and look at images and PDFs.
- Check its history: list a file’s earlier versions.
- Follow your links: see the files linked to the chat you’re in.
Finding and reading happen without asking you, and the AI can only see files you can open yourself.
Files the AI Creates
In a chat, the AI can create files for you:
- Images: ask for an image, or for a change to one. The AI asks for your approval first. See Creating Images.
- Charts, spreadsheets, PDFs and code: the AI can write and run code to make a chart, a CSV or Excel file, a PDF, or a code file. The code runs in a secure sandbox, separate from your account.
- Folders: ask the AI to create a folder, for example “make a folder called Q3 Reports”. It asks for your approval first.
Every new file the AI creates is attached to its reply and saved in the chat’s folder, under Chats in your Files. From there you can open, edit, move, share and download it like any other file. Each file can be up to 50 MB. When the AI changes an existing image, the result is saved as a new version of that image instead, next to the original.
The AI can’t move, rename, share or delete your files.
AI in the Editors
- Documents: the AI Sidebar and AI Assist rewrite and edit your document with you. See Editing Docs.
- Code: the AI Sidebar explains code and proposes changes, which are highlighted in the editor for you to keep or undo. See Editing Code.
- Images: Edit with AI changes an image from your description. See Editing Images.
The AI Sidebar can also find and read your other files, just as it can in a chat.
Privacy
- Only what you can open: the AI sees only your own files and files shared with you.
- Approval for changes: the AI asks before it creates an image or a folder. See Approving Actions.
- No training: your files are never used to train AI models. See Security.
